Hi Kate, I am trying to trace my g.g.mother Ellen Mcgrath. The only info I have is marriage and death certs.  She married Daniel Addis at Auckland N.Z. in 1848 but have no idea how the family got to N.Z.  Birth date appears to be around 1822 in
Dublin.  Daniel was a british soldier who went to Australia 1n 1841 as escort on a convict ship.  It appears that quite a few Irish families were sent to Australia and I wondered if they may have been among them and then went to N.Z., rather than emigrating to N.Z. direct. Ellen's father was John Mcgrath, a contractor.  I really don't know where to start and hope you may have some ideas?
Many thanks, Topsy 1010.

Hello Katebray,  I am searching for information on my great grandmother MARY JONES nee PERSSE.  Her husband was William JONES.  She died giving birth to my grand father Samuel on June 18th, 1864.  She had two older sons, Robert and Jack.
The family are believed to have lived in North Wall, Dublin.  They were almost certainly Protestant by faith, and not in the upper strata's of society, as William was a Groom, who died shortly afterwards of pneumonia brought on by trying to rescue horses in a flood.
Mary's sister (name unknown) brought up the boys, and they later set sail for Canada and Australia.
Hope you can help.
Wendy in Western Australia.

Hello Katebray,  I am desperately seeking records of my great grand mother's death.  She died giving birth to my grand father.  Her name was MARY JONES nee PERSEE.  Her husband's name was William, and my grand father's name was Samuel.  He had two older brothers, Robert & Jack.
I know for certain SAMUEL was born June 18th 1864.  Probably in Dublin.
His father died of pneumonia shortly afterwards, trying to rescue horses trapped in their stables during a flood.  The boys were raised by their grandmother & Mary's sister, their aunt.
I strongly suspect they were Protestant by religion.
That's about all the information I can give you.  I HOPE that you might be able to find some record of MARY which will tell me something of her origins.
Optimistically,
Wendy in W. Australia

Hi Wendy,

Do you have a family history centre you can visit? Check out the birth and death indexes they have on film. The entry should give an address.

If Samuel was born in 1864 and IF his birth was registered, it would likely be in the IGI database.

Kate,

I posted a request a few weeks ago and there has been no response.  It was regarding any death registration for Francis Louis Longford in Dublin between 1901 and 1907.  Am I correct in thinking that there was nothing to be found, or am I just waiting in line for you to check all those many requests you have received?

Best wishes
Mary

Hi,

Did you already look in the death indexes? These are at the GRO in Dublin for this timescale.

Sorry, I'm in England and at present don't see any way out of family commitments to be able to visit Dublin.

Hi Catherine,
For a couple of years now I have been trying to find details of my Great Grandmother's birth. Wonder if you can help.
She was born Eliza Prescott, around 1844 in Dublin. Father Edward Prescott. Family legend has it that Eliza was half Spanish, obviously on her mother's side.
Not much to go on, but ever optimistic.
