what does seem to be strange is Sarah Elizabeth Peach had a daughter Ailah May in 1901 Sarah Elizabeth married William Housley  and their 4th child together -b 1910 was also named Ailah (Housley)

Suz

Yes, the first Ailah (Peach) is with her grandparents, whilst the younger Ailah (Housley) is, as you mention, Suzard, with her parents.

I wondered, before looking at the 1911 census entries, if the elder Ailah would be shown as the 'daughter' of her grandparents, as often happened with illegitimate births, and therefore did not 'belong' in the Housley family so another child could be given her name. But she is clearly shown as grand-daughter.

Perhaps the elder Ailah was normally called by her middle name, May?

Hi,

Ailah is an unusual name, this with a place of birth as Bonsal Derbyshire, so just wondered where
the name came from.

1901 Census  Puddle Hill, Bonsal, Derbyshire
Piece 3241, Folio 11, Page Number13
John Kinder   48
James Kinder   46
Joshua Kinder   35
Arlah Peach   20  PUT ACTUALLY AILAH ON THE CENSUS IMAGE.
Mary A Peach   9/12
Sarah L Peach   26

So possibly a family connection.

Ailah & Sarah were sisters & it looks like Sarah had another daughter before Ailah in 1901.
There's a birth in 1899 for a Mary Ann Peach ( Ashbourne Reg. Dist. which covers Bonsall) but no death & I can't see her in 1911.
May be she had her adopted if it's the right one ?
I notice she was in Puddle Hill so I'm wondering if one of the Kinders is Ailah's father.

Wow,just checked back and I'm overwhelmed everyone by your replies. Many Thanks to all of you.

Ailah May born in 1901 married George Baker in 1922 and they had  a daughter also in 1922 also called Ailah May. So it was obviously a family name. Although the Ailah born in 1922 had a daughter in 1945 with John Smith and named her Carol so she didn't carry on the name. Carol was my mother.

I have managed to find information on some of the Baker family,(children from Ailah and George) there is a sister who would be 77 now and I wrote last week to an address I found on the internet but as yet have no reply. My grandmother died aged 25 when my mum was 2 and I have never met any of that side of the family. So here's hoping

An extra 'I' added to spelling of Ailah's name but this looks to be her death entry

Yes this is her. I have visited her grave in Chesterfield. She is buried with two of her children. Melinda and George.
