Hello Kate, I had a 3x great aunt who lived in Rafford. She managed to produce several children, all without a marriage in sight. One of her sons Baptised 18-1-1863 in Forres was called George McGillivray Cant. On his birth entry it states he was illigitimate.
Father- John McGillivray ploughman. Mother- Mary Cant domestic farm servant.
Informant John McGillivray father of Bognie Rafford.
John went on to marry Elspet McGillivray and they had 7 children. My Illegitimate George was living with John and Elspet as their son on the 1881 census in Todholes, and the 1871 in Rafford.
I am thinking John may be connected to you.
Also, a little something I came across.

We visited Rafford old Church yard- the Church no longer exists, there is a new one a short distance away. I did take lots of photos but only my lot, so cannot help you there.
