This might help some due to visit the ERO soon.
Having visited the ERO today I was surprised to find the car park is not in use at  the moment, having asked several people where the nearest car park was there were stories of a cost of £15 per day, I eventually found one in Writtle Street near Moulsham Street where I paid £4.50 for the day but I was told there was one in Baddow road although I have no idea of the cost
Also their opening times have changed, today it opened at 10am

With the Chelmsford City Wharf Road car park out of use at present the nearest car park to the Essex Record Office is the Baddow Road one where it is also £4.50 for the day. From there you just need to walk across the bridge to the ERO.
The opening hours changed last April and are on their website www.essexrecordoffice.co.uk.

The reason I chose to put this online was because on the day I visited  no one knew the car park was temporarily closed and didn't know where to go , I am not a local to Chelmsford and wasn't sure where the car parks were, I just hope I helped a few people who were like me, temporarily lost

The walk was quite pleasant as it happened with a walk along the waterside
