Theodore Sverdloff
« on: Monday 15 February 16 15:19 GMT (UK) »
I am looking for any information about Theodore Sverdloff, a Russian Jew who lived and worked in the UK in the early 1900s He was a musician and orchestra leader and worked with the Carl Rosa opera company. At one time he lived with Elizabeth Burgess an opera singer with that company. I have photographs of him if anyone is interested.

Seems to be a marriage in Fulham 1910 Theodor Sverdloff and Elizabeth Leech.

Many thanks, I did not know if they actually got married as Elizabeth's first husband, who had abandoned her, was still alive at this time. The family presumed she just announced they were married.

There is quite a lot of information online, assume it was Theodor's and Elizabeth's son in 1915 mother's maiden name shown as Anderson, this may be yours, the son, also Theodore married Frances Jones and they are on various electoral registers, you might well have this info

Thankyou all for your help. Now know he did get married but her husband was still alive at time but unknown to her. he had been reported dead twice in Boer War. The child in 1915 is not her so there must have been other Sverdloffs about Elizabeth died in 1934 but can no record of Theo's death.

Elizabeth died 13/06/1932 aged 68, death registered as West Ham. Will  gives place of death as Central Home Leytonstone Essex, address on will Ashton Under Lyne, probate to Samuel Alfred Platt and Clara Seymour widow. Elizabeth herself is shown as wife of Theodor, so, I assume he died after her but then he was 16 years her junior ??

Thankyou for your help. He had already left her before her death when he realised they were not actually married. She left her money and furniture to her ex dressers - she was a well known opera singer, which is where she me Theodore, who was an orchestra leader. I know he 'remarried ' but nothing further. he was Russian so may have left the country.
