Australian looking for Scottish Relatives
« on: Monday 15 February 16 07:25 GMT (UK) »
Hi, I live in Australia having migrated from Scotland in 1951, trying to reconnect with lost family members.
Looking for the three sons of my cousin Charlotte Duff Boyd and her husband Andrew West Boyd.
Believed last address was Torridon Path, Glasgow.
Would be most grateful for any forthcoming information

Hi Mrs K

Welcome to Rootschat :)

Rootschat is generally used to find ancestors that have passed on. There are people who will search the living but Rootschat policy is we cant name people still living. If you wish to amend your post so no-one living is named I am sure many will help.

The Scotland Boards are one of the friendliest.

Good luck in your search :)

A bit of fiddling with the indexes at Scotland's People www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk (SP) tells me that an Andrew West Boyd died in Glasgow in 2014 aged 78. If you think this is the one you are looking for, his death certificate will tell you the name and address of the person who registered the death, and you should then be able to get in touch.

There are various ways of getting that information.

You can order a copy of the certificate via the SP web site, or you can get a transcription. For the latter, you can either appeal for someone who is going to the SP centre to transcribe it for you, or you can contact a professional searcher and pay them to do so.

The quickest method is probably the professional searcher. The helpful volunteer would be cheapest but could take longer. Ordering online is the most expensive (but still costs less than some Australian certificates) but it is the most reliable.

Assuming that you know the names of his sons, another way to tackle this would be to use www.192.com and see if any of them are listed there. If they might be directors of a company there are numerous sites listing the names and addresses of directors of UK companies, including the official government one https://www.gov.uk/government/organisations/companies-house

Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

Hi Mrs K

I was at the Hub and had a look at your request.
Andrew died December 2nd 2014 aged 78 in the Victoria Infirmary Glasgow.
His son registered the death.
I had a look for him in the phone book but there was no listing for him at the address.

It is possible he is ex-directory or uses a mobile no. so a letter would be a good idea.

Andrew W Boyd is listed here at the Torridon Path address, as is Charlotte:

http://www.searchelectoralroll.co.uk/Default.asp

Using this may help you locate other relatives once you know their names.  :)

There are four addresses for a Charlotte Boyd. Whether this is the same Charlotte I don't know, but they are all in Glasgow so it is possible that it is the same person and she moved around. There may be a way to find out dates of registration but I haven't worked that out (yet).  :)

Added: You can register and subscribe to the site which will apparently provide you with further information. It looks like the minimum cost is £19.99 for 10 days searching which may be worthwhile for you.  :)

These days a general google search of a name (and perhaps add a location if the name is a common one) often throws up some results on facebook etc.

After Mrs Koala has made another couple of posts the Personal Messaging system will be activated and you will be able to pass on the son's name.  :)
