Another thought. This daughter Niley aged 16 in 1871. Maybe she was born in 1855. I must try and see if she is on SP for that year

Does the letter give a location?

Does the letter state that John Crawford was married to Mary Morrison or just living with her?

Do you have names of any of their siblings?

Do you have the parents names of Mary Morrison?

What is the nature of the letter and what is the connection of the writer to John and Mary?

ordinary correspondence about 1970 from one of aunts to another. None of them are Crawford's or Morrison's

In the 1901 census (Ancestry) there is a John C Crawford, Slater, born 1852 in England living at 29a Cameron Street, Glasgow wife wife Mary ( born Ireland) and some children. The 1911/12 Glasgow postal directory lists him still at that address and described as a Slater and Chimney Sweep.

Tried to reply to PM from OP - however, came up with 'User 'gill baker' has blocked your personal message' !!!

To answer the question, Margaret Crawford was born at 65 Grassmarket, Edinburgh.
