Can you tell us where you have found him already? Where did the year of birth and place of birth come from?
HAve you found him in 1881 census (free to search?) I see there are over 50 John Thompsons born within a year of 1880 giving a YOrkshire pob in 1881. Without knowing any more about yours, not even how near Leeds he was born, it is an impossible task to say which is correct isn't it.
John Thompson is not exactly an uncommon name, so more info will be required!
