James and Ann Davies
« on: Tuesday 09 February 16 12:55 GMT (UK) »
I am trying to find out whether Ann Davies went to Pennsylvania with her husband Janes and re-married  when she was widowed to Daniel Driscoll, with whom she was living in Pennsylvannia as his wife in the 1870 Census.  I have searched in UK records for a marriage but can't find anything, but haven't had any luck with American records either.  Can anybody help please?

Hi Judy,

Some more information would be helpful - such as when and where she was born ' same for her two husbands.

Could you also include a  transcript of the 1871 US Census.

When and where, for
a) the first and last knowledge of her in the US and
b) the last knowledge of her in the UK?

Cheers

Hi Ann.  She was born Ann Evans, daughter of Evan Evans and marries James Davies in 1854.  I have found the following passenger details for her -

Name:   Ann Davies
Birth Date:   abt 1836
Port of Departure:   Liverpool, England
Arrival Date:   5 Aug 1856
Port of Arrival:   Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA
Age on Arrival:   20
Ship:   Tonawanda

I have also found evidence of Daniel Driscoll going over to Pennsylvania with his mother, Wineford (Winifred?)

In the 1870 Census in Berks County, Pennsylvania, she is married to Daniel Driscoll.  By 1871 they are back in Merthyr Tydfil (name misspelt as Duskel) with two children whose surname is Davies.

The 1870 Census is very indistinct, but not sure how to send it anyway.

I am looking for James and Ann (nee Evans) who married in 1854 and then went to Pennsylvannia.  James disappears from the records but in 1870 Ann is married to Daniel Driskel, and they are back in Merthyr Tydfil in 1871. Can anybody shed light on what happened to James who was born around 1833 please?  Ann and James had a sons called Richard and John.

Do you know what town they were in for the 1860 or 1870 census?

I wonder if that is the correct Daniel "Dan" Driscoll in the 1870 Berks Co., PA census?  It appears his wife's name is "Elis", and they have 10 children, ages 8 months to 23 years.

This is the first and last mention in US I have been able to find.  The last mention of her is difficult  but from Probate records she died on 6 October 1916, but with a name like Jones in Glamorgan, it is impossible to pin down which one she is in the records.
