I take it that your PC is a desktop?
Do you have a separate graphics card fitted besides an onboard graphics card.
[If so above you have enabled the onboard graphics card and disabled the separate graphics card]
Normally in the above situation the onboard card should disabled!

Hi Brian
I forgot to mention I have a laptop. No I don't have a graphics card. I am not very technical.

                 Thanks for you reply

Zena - help us to help you.
1. What have you changed since it all worked OK?
2. What release of Windows do you run ? (Answers could be Windows/XP, Vista, 7, 8 or 10...)
3. What happens if you wait quite a long tme after starting up the PC - does screen remain blank?

My next bet is Windows 7/8 with a chance of Vista.
If 7/8 could be that Windows 10 files have been downloaded in the background and are now slowing the machine down.
Graphics becoming slow to load up.
Vista could just be very slow, graphics drivers as above.

Hi Brian .greenrig

I am using  windows 10. When it started playing up  I was using it as normal  then the screen went blank so started pressing F keys and some of the others next to them and found if I done the Break /end, it came up to close or restart. So if I cancel. the screen comes up ok. As it didn't start a few minutes ago had to do, CTRL. ALT.DELETE to get the desktop screen to open up.
I don't leave the screen on, quite a while, but I wait till for the wheel stops spinning which takes longer than normal to open up, then the a blank screen come up. It works ok once I can get the desktop to come on. but Don't want to keep messing with it to get it started.
Hope you are able to help me further and thank you.

Maybe it is trying to update.

If you can get the power option to come up it could be worth clicking "Shut Down".
Let it completely go off.
Leave it 5 mins then turn back on and leave it alone till it asks for you to log in.

Sometimes they need to be plugged in to update.

I also always shut down by the power options. I know some people who just close the lid.

Hope this helps a bit!

If it is a troublesome update causing the grief you could do as suggested.
Plugging in your power adapter and power on.
Looking bottom left on the task bar (4square icon), left click to bring up menu and click onto settings.
Look for 'update and security' and click onto box which will show 'windows update', then click onto any start update allowing PC to search for updates.
[Be aware some updates can take for ages to download, scroll down to install now when download complete!]
Hope I am not teaching you to 'how to suck eggs', just find that writing the instructions down as above helps to get the job done first time. :)

Thank you Brian & C W
Have just checked for any updates which I do most days, all ok
Will it do any harm pressing the end/break tab to get the opening page up.
Brian No I am not offended  by explaining I am just grateful for you help.
         Thank you both
