 My great great grandfather was Joseph Holmes 1834 - 1906 he married Mary Elizabeth Teal and had 8 children, George William Holmes his son married Annie Charlton who had 6 children Donald being my grandfather and the family background was that of blacksmiths .

Sorry I haven't replied earlier but I changed my email address and didn't get the notification.
It is a nice co-incidence that your family had the 'Barrel' and were Holmes'.
The publicans at The Barrel were not my direct ancestors but were related - cousins I think. There is a line of publicans in my family -my great grandfather, Horatio Thomas Holmes had the Moulders Arms and the Dog and Duck in Beverley. My Grandfather, his son, named after his paternal grandfather Joseph, was a farrier.
I'm not aware of any 'Ash' connections to the Holmes' but I must admit that I have rather let my family history research slide.
I did attach a photograph I have of a wedding party, taken outside The Barrel, which shows my GGGrandfather Joseph Holmes, his wife Mary Teal and Horatio Thomas as a boy, to an earlier post. I hope that you were able to open it.

  My great great grandad was Joseph Holmes 1834-1906 his son George William Holmes was my great grandad and bother to Horatio Holmes and their only sister Ada. My grandad Donald Holmes 1903-1966. And yes he had a relation by the name of Ash who also lived in Walkington in the Terrace's of whom has a child I use to visit weekly.
