Reeves/Turner Marriage - Maidstone/Chart Sutton
« on: Tuesday 02 February 16 14:18 GMT (UK) »
Hi there! Any help with this would be appreciated.

I have a marriage index record for my 2nd Great Aunt (Catherine Ada Reeves) married Frank Turner around Jun 1917 in the Maidstone registration district (Possibly Chart Sutton or Boughton Monchelsea) Can anyone access the parish registers at all? I'm at a bit of a dead end with this part of my family and any aditional details from the register may help.

Thanks in advance

Are you sure the marriage was in a church?
Perhaps they married at the Register Office.

The best solution, IMHO, is to purchase the Marriage Certificate from the GRO.

Hi,

The short answer is no...i'm not sure. I will order the certificate if I have to but, being a little strapped at the moment, i'm hoping i wont have to.

Another option is to go and look at Parish Records yourself at the Local Record Office.

I see you are only about 40 miles from the Kent History Centre in Maidstone. And they are open Saturdays.
Obviously I do not know of your personal situation as to whether this is an option.
But in my own experience, a day at the Record Office can be a great experience, and for the cost of the petrol/train/parking/etc a whole lot of things can be looked for all together.

Alternatively, maybe someone on here can help solve your dead end  without you getting the certificate.  It is always worth a try, why not post the details.

Thanks all, I'm reasonably seasoned at the research lark....just a little impatient and unsure as the when i'll be able to get to Maidstone in person for a research trip.

By train, cheap day return - £20.70.
By bus, from £6.50 - and nearly 5 hours!

From GRO £9.25, including postage & packing. ;D

That's a no-brainer in my opinion! :D

Depends on your circumstances, and what you also find at the record office -

Could be:  -  4 litres of petrol = £4-12

Find equivalent of 10 certificates worth of info = £92-50

(Sorry, KGarrad, I'm just winding us all up!)
