This post is also in the Wiltshire section.
James Brown aka Hobbs was believed to have been born in Bath between 1780 and 1788. Information obtained reveals his death at age 94, 1874 Richmond, Tasmania. Trial date , Wiltshire assizes 1813 states his age at 25 making birthdate 1788, whilst a conviction in Tasmania 1850 mentions his aged at 68, making his birthdate 1782. On with the request.
James was indicted in 1813, sentenced to hang for offences against a number of misfortunates, being Jeremiah Cottle, William Cottle and Jacob Marshall of Monkton Farleigh and A John French.
Notes reveal that James was also late of Monkton Farleigh and Lacock, Wiltshire.
Although sentenced to pay the ultimate price, his sentence was later repealed and he was transported to New South Wales, later sent to VDL ( Tasmania) where he lived a long and somewhat interesting life.
I appreciate the difficulty of the task but any assistance in determining parents, siblings etc., would be greatly appreciated.
