Marriage banns and ?
« on: Saturday 30 January 16 16:00 GMT (UK) »
In a parish register from 1741 most entries show banns by publication. However, some entries are shown as the marriage is by what looks like 'lyreure'.

Can someone please identify this word please?

Marriages could only be by Banns or Licence.

My word Stan, that was quick and of course now I know, the word on the register is obviously licence.

That would account for the delay in the date of the licence and the actual marriage.

Many thanks.
