Photocopy of a newspaper article of a distant relative Florence Davey
« on: Saturday 30 January 16 03:12 GMT (UK) »
Does anyone know if it is possible to adjust this image to make it any clearer? My mate who does a does some work with photos, hasn't been able to do anything with this. It ends up all grainy or what does exist of the person, disappears.
To my knowledge it is the only image that exists of this young girl. No-one seems to know who has the original newspaper article that this was copied from.
I don't hold out much hope.
Thanks in advance.

Hello Yonks,
About 1930. But that is a guess. I have no idea which paper. I have only ever seen the photocopy of the photo. The story is that she was visiting family down near Brisbane. So probably a Brisbane paper. As far as we know her name was not linked to the photo. I have searched Trove and so far not found it. I was told she was 'snapped' at an outing and was titled something like 'Visitors enjoy the outing'. I have searched for the phrase but not found anything yet.

I have seen stories reported about family in newspapers from other states as well as other areas within the state, so my assumption that it was in a Brisbane paper, is just that, an assumption. I suppose the same company might have owned several papers and that is why local stories are found in all sorts of places.

Her name is Florence Davey. But! She was never referred to as Florence. She was 'Bloss' or 'Bub'. I only found her name out a few years ago, when I was sent a photo of a list of names written in a bible. I had up to that time wondered if her name was a flower of some sort - hence the Bloss - maybe short for blossom.  So far nothing like this photo has appeared under a search of any of these names.

There is a lot of heresay relating to this image. As she is an extended family member, I have not followed it up. I have been tidying up my ancestry and came across it again. It was sent to me with some other bits and pieces, but the lady who sent it to me has passed.
I thought I would post it to see if it could be improved. But I think it is too far gone.

I think she would have been about 12 years old.

Not a capital city library.
What records are you thinking I could search?

Thanks japeflakes. It is a very degraded image. There is too much shading and not enough detail. I think the original newspaper article must have been in poor condition to begin with.
