Charles and Jane Fredrick of Greenock found on 1861 census

I'm on a high! I've made a minor breakthrough with a branch of my family!! hooray!
needing a bit of help -
The family I have found is this: on 1861 census:
Charles Fredrick head age 47 sugar boiler   place of birth Germany!
Jane wife age 44 Stirlingshire
Catherine dau 25 Greenock
Peter son 21 iron moulder
M? son 19 ?
Henry son 15
Charles son 9
Janet dau 2
Janet Fredrick? mother in law 70 Stirlingshire Polmont

My interest is this:
my late mother in law was named Jeanie Fredrick (and her  surname). Always thought to be  from Germany.
Her father was George Paterson, his brother Walter Paterson married a woman known as Jeanie Fredrick. After many years this is the first time I have found someone with a "sounds -like" name that matches.The age gap between this young Jane/Janet/Jeanie b 17 October 1858 and Walter b 23.4.1877 is a bit weird.
Can anyone help me unscramble this family a bit please?
I'd also love to know more about the German connection.
any offerings would be most welcome.

I can't understand how Jeanie Fredrick's father was George Paterson when the details you have posted show her father as Charles Fredrick?

You appear to be saying that you think Walter married the 1858 Jeanie Fredrick

Walter was born 1877 according to your post so would only have married sometime in the late 1890's or early 1900's by which time the Jeanie Fredrick born 1858 would have been in her 40's

Have you downloaded a copy of Walters marriage cert to establish Jeanie's age and her parents names?

My late mother in law was born 1911, Jeanie Fredrick Paterson,
named after her father George Paterson's sister in law Jeanie Frederick (who was married to george's brother Walter).
sorry! I think I got all excited by finding a Fredrick family after all these years.
I realise Janet Fredrick youngest child of Charles and Jane Fredrick would be too old to be the Janet/Jeanie who married Walter.
But this family of Fredricks is the first family of that name that I have tracked down .
Can't find a wedding for Walter Paterson.
Sorry I got in such a muddle.

IF - the 1861 entry has some link to your Jeanie then the only German connection seems to be Charles Fredrick

Where was Walter born - you have only told us he was b 1877

Have you looked for a marriage under Patterson as well as Paterson?

4 entries there for Charles 1841 to 1871. 3 in Greenock, and the earliest in Glasgow.

Have you looked at the 1871 entry for Charles Fredrick?  No Janet/Jeanie and no entry elsewhere that I can find.

SP have one marriage for a Jessie Fred**rick in 1879 in Renfrewshire so that totally rules her out of marrying Walter

However - if you download the marriage cert and establish who she married - possibly one of her daughters married Walter.  The ages would make more sense

thank you both for your help!
I have just been doing some more digging and I think I have found some of what I have been looking for. I eventually found Walter and Jane Frederick (sic) marriage and therefore parents!
that is a huge breakthrough.
So her father was Peter one of the sons of Charles Fredrick (the man who came from Germany and worked in the sugar factory).
This will help me draw up a more accurate tree now. I'm happy
