Fitzgerald Schmidt

I have an ancestor, Martha Fitzgerald, who married Hans Schmidt (born about 1891) in South Shields in February 1915. He volunteered for the army in 1915 and gave his nationality as British and his occupation as electrical engineer. He gives his address as Reyrolles. On the enlistment form it says he served in the Penang volunteers.

On the pensions sheet it says he has an alias Urick Humphrey Baker.

I can understand the alias but I cannot find anything out about any of  family at all after this. They had 2 daughters, Ada who was born and died in 1915 and a Dulcie, born in 1918.

Have you bought a copy of the 1915 marriage cert to establish if he gave a fathers name/occupation?

Have you looked for him on the 1911 census under both names? 
Have you looked for him on the 1939 register?
Have you looked for deaths for him & Martha?
Any marriage/death found for Dulcie?
What were her 2 full middle names

He gives his address as Reyrolles

If you Google Reyrolles it shows it as a British engineering firm in Hebburn which ties in with his occupation

 hans Schmidt in 1911 gives his birthplace as Germany

looking at his military records show that he had a son Alfred baker ( 2 yrs 6 months)as well as a daughter Dulcie Baker aged 6 months

Dulcie's birth was registered as Schmidt in the Dec qtr 1918 and she had L B as middle initials on the registration

There is no marriage for a Dulcie Schmidt or a Dulcie L B Baker - unless the B stood for Baker

In 1919 there is a request for repatriation to Straits Settlements for U H Baker.
Claim includes wife/sons/daughters (no names)

Therefore perhaps the whole family moved to U H Baker's homeland.

He states that his ultimate destination is - 337 Anson Road, Penang Straits Settlement.

"Dulce Baker" b c1918  can be found on a ship from London to Yokohama, her destination Penang, in April1937. her last address in the UK was 10, Lulworth Drive, Pinner. Intended future residence "FMS" No occupation listed

there are two incoming records

August 1932 - from Penang

Martha - 37
Dulcie - 13
two younger sons - I won;t name as quite possibly still alive
Intended address 61 jervis S, Helburn of tyne

the family may have left for Penang in August 1919 - there's a listing for Private W H Baker, Mrs Baker, a female child and a female infant. No ages or addresses given  the manifest is headed "All Government passengers"

After finding the repatriation details I had hoped someone would find the passenger list.

It fits in with all the chasing letters in his army records from c May 1919 seeking a date for his shipping back, concerned as his mother's sight was failing as well as for his future, as he was disabled to a degree following a gunshot wound to the arm .

his records also claim he arrived on the King Ludwig into Southampton on 28 Feb 1913 - which doesn't quite fit his being on the 1911 census. I guess it may have been his final return to Britain, with previous residences whilst a student

I also can't definitely find Martha and the children returning to Penang after the 1932 visit, which they - or at least Dulcie - must have done. I have however found a Mrs M Baker, aged 40 leaving for Colombo, Ceylon/Sri Lanka, final destination Straits settlement, in 1933, along with a Miss L Baker, 12 and two younger boys with the right first initials and approx the right age.
