Looking for Photographs - Piccadilly Christmas Parade late 60's early 70's
« on: Wednesday 27 January 16 19:09 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

I have been asked by a good friend who knows my interest in genealogy / family history if I could try to find some photographs for him.

The photographs are of the Lewis’s Christmas celebrations in Piccadilly, Manchester. My friend owned & drove the famous "Independent “ Mail Coach & 4 horses during the Christmas parade. He thinks it was probably 1969, 1970 or 1971. He says that it was a wonderful occasion with Father Christmas, elves etc & that the crowds were huge. He is making up a collage of photographs of his life but unfortunately he has no photographs of this event & would dearly love to obtain some of this very memorable event in his life.

Can anyone help,

Many thanks,

Jac

Newspapers of the time may have photographs.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply,

I did contact the Manchester Evening News but they haven't replied yet. Do you know where the archives for newspapers are kept? I live on the Isle of Man so it would be difficult to access, I would probably have to ask someone to do the research for me.

Cheers,

Jac

Thanks for the link Heywood, unfortunately no luck with the photos online. Perhaps they have more at the library but can't check as I live on the Isle of Man. :(

Thanks heywood. What a shame that there wasn't anything relating to my topic in the newspaper article you sent me. I find it hard to believe that the event wouldn't have been recorded by the press.
I'm sure that there will be plenty of photos out there taken by members of the public as well. Just need to think of a way to find them.
Cheers, Jac
