Hello,

I'm asking your help to look into South African Commercial Advertiser to trace the brig Antelope circa 1820-1825.

In 1824, I found she was under 'R. Butler' command and I would like to know if he was the only captain of this ship. In 1826, R. Butler seems to be captain of another brig called Thomas.

Someone could help me to trace "Antelope" and "R. Butler" from 1820 to 1826, please?
Thank you very much.

Thank you for the link, but in this website, there are no departures/arrivals for shipping, only deaths, mariage, births...   :( :-\

Hi

Don't know if you've seen this site, but it is pretty comprehensive

Hello,

For 3sillydogs : Thank you for your links, but they are about later shippings, circa 1850-1900.

I found on googlebook that the Antelope was used in 1824 to carry settlers from Cape Town to Natal area with another ship (the Julia, I think).

On Lloyds List, it seems that in 1822, the captain was named Cole, but the ship was sold in 1823. Perhaps, Butler became captain of this ship in 1824, but I would like to confimr with some look-up into local newspapers... :)

If someone could look up into "Cape Gazette and African Advertiser" for these entries "Antelope", "Butler' between 1820 and 1826, it could be very helpful...

Thank you.
 :)

Hello,

I think (and I hope!!) could be Richard Butler, a mariner who lived in Cape Town between 1820 and 1829.

I think he was the same R. Butler who was captain of the brig Thomas in 1826 (lost between Algoa Bay and Table Bay in march, 1829), and perhaps the same who was captain of the Harmony in 1825-1826 (wrecked in Knysna in 1826)

Thank you very much if you could help me! :)
