Marriage Banns

Hi All,
I wonder if anyone can help, I would like to search marriage banns for Northumberland, Banns only as this marriage went to the alter but didn't happen. Mother was with child but the child never new who her father was/ or didn't say to her children and they are now searching any help most appreciated

Do you know where in Northumberland the banns would have been read/ marriage to have taken place? Also a timescale would be helpful, then we can see if we can find where the banns registers may be found for you.

So what leads to you believe the banns would have been read in Northumberland?

Does this info refer to the mother or the child she was expecting - it's not very clear

If the mother was only born 1905 we are presumably looking at banns somewhere around 1925?  You know what year the child was born so that info would help narrow it down further.

Where was the child born - Northumberland or Durham?

It's the mother that was born 1905 and I don't know childs name, so yes just need to know if I can search anywhere on line for marriage banns Durham only.

You may have trouble finding Banns Books, even if you know which of the many churches it was.
The Parochial Registers and Records Measure 1929 only required  that register books of baptisms, marriages and burials in the power and custody of any minister of the diocese shall be kept in a chest or safe, Banns Books are not mentioned .It is only since 1978 with the passing of the Parochial Registers and Records Measure, Registers of baptisms, marriages and burials and registers of banns,confirmations and services are, when completed have to be permanently deposited at the Diocesan Record Office. (usually the local Record Office). Where Parish Archives remain with an incumbent they should be available for inspection 'at all reasonable hours' and fees are payable, by law, as set out in the 'Table of Parochial Fees'
