I just hooked into this site and found the posting regarding James Moralee and the Moralees in general. Jackpot! I am descended from Michael Moralee, b. 03 Mar 1807 in Longbenton, nr Newcastle, Northumberland. He is the brother of the James Moralee by Sarah. Prior to this posting, I only knew there was a brother named James. I also have as siblings Margaret b. 17 Jul 1809 and Jane b. 1805. I'm not 100% on Jane since she has the same birth year as James but no month and day attached to it.
I would love to have more information on James and his family: Sarah, it looks like we are related. Michael Moralee was my ggg grandfather.
Michael Moralee married twice. 1st to Catherine Butcher b. 1811, married 1828, place unknown. They had one son, Matthew Madison Moralee b. 28 Feb 1829 in Springfield, Massachusettes, USA. I don't know when Michael arrived in the US. Catherine Butcher Moralee died soon after childbirth. Michael Moralee married 2nd Sarah Beavon b. 11 Jul 1815 in Wales, possibly Merthyr Tydfil, Glamorganshire where at least one sister was born. Beavon is spelled in many variations, most commonly Bevan. I'm not sure where they were married but I am assuming in the US: they were married in 1831. By 1832 they were in Dubuque, Iowa where they had 6 children: Thomas 1832-1832, James 1833-1833 (2 months), Margaret Beavan 1835-1906 (My gg grandmother), Elizabeth Ramsay 1836-1876, Martha Ann 1838-1874, and Mary Currie 1840-1896. The family then moved to sw Wisconsin, a few miles away and had 6 more children: Catherine 1842-1901, Sarah Jane 1844-1845, William Henry 1846-1864 (died of disease fighting in the Civil War), Thomas Beavan 1848-1906, Emma Jane 1850-1908 and Sarah Ford 1854-1875.
Margaret Beavan Moralee married William Johns (1824 Perranuthnoe, Cornwall to 1904 Alameda, California) in 1854 in Grant County, SW Wisconsin. They moved to California for the Gold Rush, had 9 children, 4 of which lived to adulthood, all boys.
I have tons of infomation on this side of the Moralee family and would love to get whatever I could from the English and Welsh family.
