I have found a lady on the 1939 register with W.A.T.S. after her name. She was living in Huyton, near Liverpool. Please can anyone tell me if there are records for W.A.T.S in that area ? Thankyou

Could possibly be something to do with  Auxiliary Territorial Service  (ATS)?

How old was she?   and was she single?

Putting those answers together?

Was the official title in 1939  "Womens Auxiliary Territorial Service"    and it was later  shortened to just ATS

There were auxiliary services of various types to which women could be called up, one of which was the Women's Transport Services. Maybe its full title would have been Women's Auxiliary Transport Services?

Thankyou for all your suggestions re W.A.T.S.  Yes the lady in question was single, aged 28yrs and most likely worked with vehicles of some kind. Unfortunately, information on the 1939 register has been cut short by the edge of a page. I would have to visit TNA to see it completely. Thanks again.
