Margaret Doyle - Liverpool, trying to find her mother
« on: Monday 18 January 16 01:27 GMT (UK) »
Hi

Margaret Doyle married David Cunningham on the 11 August 1850, St Philip's Church, Liverpool.  Marriage records have a John Doyle , Gardener as her father.  One of the witness is Richard Doyle.

I was hoping that her death record would provide information on her mother, alas it didn't  :(.  She died 31 December 1880 in Dunedin, NZ at the age of 48.  The records show that her father was John Doyle, Nurseryman and that she was married in Liverpool at the age of 18 to David Cunningham.  The marriage record said she was of full age.  If the death record information is correct then she must have been born around 1832.

She travelled from Liverpool to Melbourne in 1853, the passenger list has her age as 25.  This would mean an earlier birth date.

Any information / help would be very much appreciated.

Thanks

She married in Liverpool in 1850 but have you found her on the 1851 census?   Have you any confirmation that she was born in Liverpool itself?

if the death cert is right - this is a possibility - born 7th November 1831 would make her 18 on 11th Aug 1850 at her marriage - so it all fits in with the death cert

what do you think ??
ADDED- possible marriage ??

if it is Mary Wibby - what a lovely surname to research  :)
looking at Lan-opc - her marriage is there - but not her baptism ??...so it doesn't look like she was born in Liverpool
Marriage: 23 Apr 1820 St Nicholas, Liverpool, Lancashire, England
John Doyle - Labourer, Parish of Liverpool
Mary Wibby - Spinster, Parish of Liverpool

There is a tree on Ancestry that suggests she was born in Scotland, but still has her here in the UK in 1871,so either that's the wrong person or she was back here by then?

If Margaret lied about her age on her marriage (of full age means over 21 ie born 1829 or earlier) then the other ages may not be consistent

Plus we still don't know that she was definitely born in Liverpool only that she married there.   I cannot find her on the 1851 census when she ought to be in Liverpool - her daughter born there 16/6/1851 at Blackstock Street.

The vast majority of Doyle's in Liverpool were born in Ireland - have only found one John Doyle who was a gardener in 1851 (bc.1789 Rathdrum, Wicklow, Ireland)  but can't see him in Liverpool in 1841.

Look at original records for marriages/baptisms in Liverpool aside from Margaret's own marriage cannot find any other Doyle whose father John was a gardener.

Have you considered that dad might have died by 1841.

There is this family in St Martin area of Liverpool in 1841 with no head, but as the oldest son is called John,it's likely that dad was too. There is also a brother called Richard, who may have been the witness?

Ellen Doyle    39 charwoman
John Doyle    20 mariner
Mary Ann Doyle    17
Ellen Doyle    12
Elizabeth Doyle    10
Margt Doyle    8
Richard Doyle    2
Alice Doyle    6

I've looked at this baptism in two places and I'm seeing Jasper Street , not Blackstock Street. I can't find Blackstock Street on the 1851 census , but there is a family of Doyles at 4 Jasper Street, Liverpool.
