death record look up at Rochdale for the Woolfenden family
« on: Tuesday 12 January 16 17:36 GMT (UK) »
Could someone please look up death records. I have a few in the 1839-45 timeframe that I am looking for. Not sure if I need to buy them or if you can just look at them and record the information. I found the church burial records but not the formal city registration.

Mary Wolfenden died April 1839, buried April 9, 1839, James Woolfenden died September 1849, buried September 13, 1840, St James, Ashworth
Simeon Woolfenden died February 1839, buried February 10, 1839, St. James Ashworth
James Woolfenden died September 1840, buried September 13, 1840 St. James, Ashworth
James Woolfenden died March 1845, buried March 2, 1845, St. James, Ashworth

Question 2, John Woolfenden of Codshaw, Wolstenholme; died May 1813, I have a burial record, are other records available? thank you
i live in massachusetts, i am researching Woolfenden, Hodgson, Walker, Clegg, from the Rochdale / Oldham areas.

Members of the public do not have access to info on death certs - you have to buy a copy

If you are asking about a death cert - the answer is no for that period.  Civil registration only started in 1837
Census Information is Crown Copyright, from www.nationalarchives.gov.uk

If you want the death registration, then you will need to purchase the death certificate - from General Register Office (cheapest at £9.25 per copy).  However, that only applies from 1 July 1837.  Prior to that date the burial entry will be the only information available to you, unless the deceased left a will (which will possibly give you a date of death).

www.freebmd.org.uk is the free transcription of the GRO Indices.
Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.
Remember - "They'll be found when they want to be found" !!!
If you don't ask the question, you won't get an answer.

PLEASE NOTE Mary Woolfenden and Simeon Woolfenden deaths are registered in Walmersley, Bury.
I just saw the following listed hope that helps:

Mary Woolfenden: WAL/1/26 Walmersley 1839
Simeon Woolfenden: WAL/1/24 Walmersley 1839
James Woolfenden: SF/1/72 Rochdale 1840
James Woolfenden: SF/2/78 Rochdale 1845

I will try and purchase copies, thanks
