Wedding 1945 - grooms uniform
« on: Friday 08 January 16 19:44 GMT (UK) »
I wasn't sure where this would be best - here or on one of the Armed Forces boards.  Thought I would try here first, but mods - please feel free to move if you think it would be better placed elsewhere.

Would anyone be able to hazard a guess as to which branch of the services this gentleman's uniform belongs to?  This is his wedding photo from 1945.

I don't have the original photo, this was sent to me embedded in a word doc, I made a pdf from this.  Apologies for the quality of the image

Thanks
Lisa

My first thoughts were RAF, wearing a Lance corporal stripe.

This is clipped from the word doc, I don't know whether its any clearer.

The bridesmaid on the left is wearing an interesting collar/headgear....

My guess would be bog-standard RAF, Other Ranks uniform with insignia of Leading Aircraftman /L.A.C. (i.e. two-bladed propellor rather than NCO stripe). All this would unfortunately give no clue whatsoever of his trade.

Thank you. I shall have to weigh up spending money on one of those forces records sites to see if I can discover any more.

A copy of the marriage certificate might give you the answer or get a copy of his service records from the MOD; it will not be available online.
