TEACHERS COLLEGE IRELAND

How do i go about finding information (can i get any information?) on who was at the Teachers Training College 1860-1866? I have been told to research as that could explain HOW Melicina Bennet Bateman met William Turner (if they were there at the same time) and her then move to Northern Ireland to teach.

I have been told that you couldn't teach UNLESS you went to the above. I am not certain if this is true for their era but i am trying to put it all together.

Thank you in advance for help   ;D ;D

M'Keown is not related, she is named after teacher (in my family) who taught at the school her (M'Keown) father was a headmaster at. I managed to get in contact with the family.

Given the age difference of William Turner and Melicina Bateman, it is more plausible that they met teaching in northern Ireland as on their marriage certificate, they were living near each- other.

Hello
I'm new to RootsChat and came here as I was researching a Stephen Howard Gemmell who is my great grand father via my maternal side. I currently use FamilySearch for building my tree.
I'm descended from Kathleen Bromby (née Tennent) GWLJ-K9D - refer to FamilySearch.
I'm still very much researching the Gemmell and Gardner lines but in reference to previous posts re Gemmell I confirm:
Stephen Howard Gemmell B 1856 D 1911 married in 1881 Jean Scott Gardner B 1861 or 1862 D 1944 - for the latter I'm still trying to find a birth registration to confirm the dates. NB there's a bit of confusion between Jean and Jeanie with the marriage certificate and birth registrations of their children use Jeanie, the death register for her husband uses Jane. NB if you look up this part of the tree on FamilySearch ignore most of the sources added by others as I'm still investigating how valid they are.
The Gemmell children were:
Agnes Howard B 1885 (my grand mother)
Helen Jeffrey Gardner B 1883
Jean Scott B 1888 (to be confirmed)
Margaret Hogg Fergason B 1889
Robert Howard Gardner B 1890 (and not 1888 as written elsewhere on this subject) bu 17 Feb is correct
John Gardner B 1892 (to be confirmed)
William Howard B 1895 (to be confirmed)
In my mother's notes she states that following the death of her husband Jean/Jeannie Scott Gemmell emigrated to Canada taking with her daughters Jean and Margaret, plus her sons John and William Howard. The latter son was KIA in 1918.
Under FamilySearch my user name is JohnBromby

No birth registrations before 1864 in Ireland, from 1855 in Scotland - which I see now is where you are researching https://www.familysearch.org/en/tree/pedigree/portrait/GWLJ-K9D

Thank you Kiltaglassan I confirm the date 1899 (October 3rd). I'm currently just gathering as much information as possible before going back into FamilySearch to carry out a real spring clean.
BTW a great name Kiltaglassan. A user name, but Scottish by any chance? Regards

Coming to a dead end in Ireland is unsurprising. I see your note "It appears that Stephen and his Wife Agnes Howard were born in Ireland as potentially their two sons Robert and Stephen Howard." The best resource for church record transcripts name indexed online would be RootsIreland., but if Church of Ireland they may not survive, having been lost 1922.
As you just have born Ireland is hard to advise. However ScotlandsPeople's death certs should include their parents names to the best of the informant's knowledge so if Agnes was the informant on Stephen's death more likely to be correct than one of their children. As you have no dates or locations suggest you hunt for their deaths in Scotland and view images. Also look at the 1911 census for Stephen Howard as he is recorded on it. Though the 1881, 1891 & 1901 say born Bothwell, Lanarkshire, guessing you think possibly born Ireland as seems to be no birth reg or church baptism in Scotland.

GEMMELL, STEPHEN, aged 52, mother's maiden surname WILSON, registered 1874 Bothwell

several possibilities for Agnes
GEMMELL, STEPHEN HOWARD, aged 54, mother's maiden surname HOWARD registered 1911
Coatbridge or Old Monkland
I see Stephen Howard Gemmell married 1881 Bothwell District and that his father was deceased but mother Agnes apparently alive https://www.familysearch.org/en/tree/person/memories/LKY4-MNC and that the marriage was Church of Scotland ie Presbyterian.
