1851 Census Look up Stratford, E. London

Can you please look up my ancestors in the 1851 census.  George Adam Hardness and Maria Amelia Cook were living in Stratford, East London when she died in 1856.  Maria was born in 1792.  Her sister Emma Cook Cook was married to Pierre Cornelius Van Kempen in 1818 and they were also of Stratford, E. London.  Any help you could give me on this family would be appreciated.  Thank you.  Jackie

I may be wrong but Stratford is part of West Ham for civil registration and may come under Essex for census purposes.  Confusing isn't it.

Perhaps someone will confirm this.

Couldn't find them in Bethnal Green or Whitechapel

Thanks.  I don't know London very well at all.  I would appreciate confirmation of your statement and then I'll put it in Essex.  That would make sense because the family is from Essex.  Jackie

I have family living in Stratford at that time and I think Sylviaann is right. It is usually recorded as Stratford West Ham Essex.

Stratford is part of West Ham, West Ham was part of Essex.

You will do better looking under "Essex".
