Did you note that there is a James & Ann Osborne living next door to George Coole & his mother in 1841?
I also wondered about the John Hosborne living with the Cooles in 1841. Any chance that could be a different spelling for Osborne?
In 1861 Hester Cole 49 charwoman is living at 13 Narrow Plain, St P & St J,  Clifton, Glo, with 3 of the daughters previously mentioned & 2 lodgers. She is described as a widow so I assume George Coole/Cole died between 1851 & 1861.

Yes, George died in 1856.

You could well be on the right track as I had found a christening on familysearch
Hester Osborne, Christening date 29 Oct 1815 St Philip and Jacob's Bristol. Father James Osborne, Mother Ann

Thanks

Two interesting articles...

How to search for elusive ancestors in the BMD indexes

Estimates the number of entries that may be missing from the GRO index, and explains why!

None of this has helped me find the marriage of my ancestors Barnabas and Hannah... I've looked through all the parish registers for the local area, in case their entry somehow was missed from the GRO copy.... but no, they're still not there.
I'm inclined to believe that they never actually married, but described themselves as husband and wife on two censuses and for the births and christenings of several children.

If one or both parties had been married previously, they may not have been able to marry, or at least married later after the death of a former partner. My own great grandparents did this; 6 daughters between 1880 and 1901, but only married in 1915 after the death of the former husband.
I am Australian, from all the lands I come (my ancestors, at least!)

Pine/Pyne, Dowdeswell, Kempster, Sando/Sandoe/Sandow, Nancarrow, Hounslow, Youatt, Richardson, Jarmyn, Oxlade, Coad, Kelsey, Crampton, Lindner, Pittaway, and too many others to name.
Devon, Dorset, Gloucs, Cornwall, Warwickshire, Bucks, Oxfordshire, Wilts, Germany, Sweden, and of course London, to name a few.

Another possibility and the early marriage parish records give little information.   Same as 1841 no mention if the ancestor was M,W or S.
