Looking for information about Ada Bell.
« on: Monday 21 December 15 17:15 GMT (UK) »
Hi I am trying to find some information out for my mum about her paternal grandmother. She was called Ada Mackay (born abt1900 I believe) and went onto marry Peter Bell in Midlothian Scotland. They went on to have 7 children (Ada,James(my mums father),Ronnie,Cynthia,Gordon,Grace & June). All we really know is that Ada she passed away in abt 1950.
Thanks for any help or information.

The only Ada Mackay born about 1900 in England is this:
Births Mar 1902   (>99%)
Mackay    Ada         Prestwich    8d   352

Following this birth they appear on the 1911 Census in Bradford, North Manchester.  Is this likely to be your family??

I looks like their marriage is on Scotlands People, the marriage record will give Ada's fathers name from there you will be able to find birth record and census returns. SP is pay to view at a very reasonable cost. (£7 for 30 credits from which you should be able to get all of the above)

Found her death entry and had a few credits left - it's a sad story I'm afraid.

Ada Gordon Bell   aged 46 (bc.1905-6)  wife of Peter Bell, Clerk (War Department), found drowned 2/1/1952 (Last seen alive January 1st. 1.30am and found 2/1/1952 at 1.30pm).   Found on  foreshore about 200 yards east of Gipsy Brae, Granton, Edinburgh.   Informant was her widower husband, Peter Bell.   Usual residence 9 West Pilton Avenue, Edinburgh.

Her parents are given as James Mackay, Coachman (deceased) and Ann nee Williams (deceased).

Her birth as Ada Gordon Mackay is registered in 1905 Canongate, Edinburgh - no more credits spare but as has been suggested already you'll need to purchase some credits for Scotlands People to view the certificate which should hopefully confirm her parents names as stated on her death certificate.  Scottish birth certificates also show where/when parents married (if indeed they did).

Wow thank you so much guys for the information.  Annette you seem to be spot on, we knew she had drowned but we didn't want to write it on the first post. Thank you so much for all your help,I'm going to sign up to Scottish People & see what else we can find out.
