It's possible it was an 'irregular marriage' at somewhere like Coldstream. The records for irregular marriages are incomplete - if they were recorded at all  ::)

Hi irret, I would be interested to know if any of your Alder family were blind. My 3 x Great grandmother was Margaret Alder b1843, mother being a Mary Alder, father not stated. HOwever, when Margaret later married a George Davies in Montgomery, Wales she wrote John Alder as her father on the marriage certificate. I have not found a John Alder to support this information. All I know is that Margaret moved to Montgomery with her uncle William and his family, he was a widow. 1851 census confirms this info. The main issue is that if you do have members of your family who were blind then we could definitely have a connection. I would be very keen to know. Many thanks Sharon
