Lincolnshire - Looking for GOSLING, Mary Elizabeth - parents please
« on: Tuesday 15 December 15 09:44 GMT (UK) »
Mary Elizabeth GOSLING born January 1874 • Spilsby, Midville Lincolnshire (First quarter 1874 - Volume 7A Page 585 Line Number 122). I would like to find her parents, but have not been able to find any trace of her, before her marriage to Charles William PITTS Jul 1897 Spilsby (VERY productive couple!) Her birth is on Free BMD & FamilySearch, but no parents. No record of any baptism found - I don't know if she had any siblings either (At the time of her marriage, she had dropped the Mary & was being called Elizabeth.) She died Boston, Lincs Sep 1962, age 88. . Any help please much appreciated!!  :P

I'm not seeing her on the 1881 census?

So the next choice should be to purchase the Birth Certificate.
Cost is only £9.25! ;D

You will need to check what happened to Eliza Ann GOSLING

I can't speak for anyone else, Geoff, but that link only takes me to the FreeREG search page, not to a results page.  :(

I concur with pamthomas - and who, exactly, is Eliza Ann Gosling anyway?

I'm assuming that you don't have copy of her marriage certificate which I think you need to establish name of father (or not).

Also, how can you know that your 'Elizabeth' is indeed the Mary Elizabeth birth reg'd Mar.qtr.1874 Spilsby?   In 1901 her birthplace given as Midville (but as far as I can tell from previous census' there weren't any Goslings born/living in Midville so perhaps it was her husband who gave this information in error).   In the next census she states she was born in Nottingham??   Plus, in 1901 census shows bc.1874, next one bc.1875, and death bc.1876 and always as plain Elizabeth.

Definitely think you need to start with the marriage certificate to see what information can be gleaned from that but certainly don't think you can assume that the Mary Elizabeth birth 1874 is your Elizabeth.

Sorry  :-[

Anyway, Eliza Ann was baptised in Midville at the end of 1873, dau of David and Sarah.  At least it shows there was a GOSLING family in/around Midville in the 1870s.
