Robertson Brothers Ship and Insurance brokers and Commission agents 1847
« on: Sunday 13 December 15 13:05 GMT (UK) »
I am searching for any genealogy information on David James Robertson and his brother Andrew Robertson who had been in business with Imric and Tomlinson in Liverpool and then started their own business as Ship and Insurance Brokers and Commission agents about 1847 and had offices in Manchester, London and Liverpool. From their correspondence they were related to my Scottish Robertson relative, John Robertson in Lavant Township, Lanark County, Ontario. Andrew mentioned that  John’s brother, James , is well and his sisters: Anne, Bell and Mary were enjoying good health in Scotland. However, I am unable to find the link.

I've found the two of them in the 1851 census living as lodgers in Hope Place, Liverpool.

David has a birth year of 1821, birthplace Scotland

Andrew has a birth year of 1818, birthplace Scotland

They both describe themselves as Commission Agent.

I've found what may well be David's death in SQ 1877 Liverpool 8b 115 - David James ROBERTSON age 56 which would give a birth year of 1821.

Thanks for the info guys

Girl Guide that is definitely the Robertson Brothers I am trying to track. I find it so much easier researching in Canada. Now my next step is to try to find the brothers in Scotland to identify their parents.

Thanks again

JohnRR

Girl Guide

Do you happen to have the death announcement for David James Robertson?

John

Hi John

I did try to find a death annoucement on both Find My Past and the British Newspaper Archive but neither of them had a Liverpool paper that covered 1877!

I therefore suggest that you contact Liverpool Records Office and ask if they can help you trace any possible death notice in the local paper(s).  Link below:

http://liverpool.gov.uk/libraries/archives-family-history/contact-us/

You may also like to consider finding out if David made a will.  There no record of his name on the England probate list, but there is a possibility he may be on one in Scotland.  I don't have a sub to Scotland's People so you would need to ask if anyone can check for you.
