I'm a bit desperate - family history has dried up in 1700 Ireland
« on: Friday 11 December 15 15:19 GMT (UK) »
The online records of my family have dried up in 1700 Ireland. I'm hoping someone has earlier information about my family than I do. I'm enclosing a picture of my family tree which starts with Margaret A Maguire, my maternal great-grandmother. Much of her family were from Coldfields, Moycarkey, Tipperary. Her mother, Catherine Sullivan, and her grandparents, William Sullivan and Anne Beirn, were from Aughrim, Roscommon. The Stapletons are found in or around Thurles, Tipperary and Mary Dempsey was also from Tipperary. Any help with any part of my family will be greatly appreciated.

Actually the information in that link is from 2007 and very out of date (as well as some inaccuracies in  it).

To get back to 1700 in Irish research for most people is quite good. It may be that earlier information is simply not available or just not online.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Begging your pardon  :D  What I know about Irish genealogy would fit on a penny black, simply found that info with an internet search  ::)

hallmark,

Please put some words alongside the links that you post if you don't mind. A little clue of what they contain (as in a few words) before people click on them would be very helpful. Thank you.

Have you read http://www.araltas.com/features/stapleton/  It records “Three hundred years ago, when Petty's "census" was taken, ...... Stapleton families numbered 34 in Eliogarty and 20 in Middlethird baronies. In the Ormond Deeds we find them frequently mentioned ...... one of the earliest being Robert de Stapleton, who was sheriff of Waterford in 1287.
I do wish for you to acquire a connected family tree but you are very lucky to have an apparent Norman name  which should keep you busy for many a year as well as the  irish Maguire and Sullivan
Good luck
