Goff Burials Old Folkestone
« on: Wednesday 09 December 15 14:23 GMT (UK) »
Hi and thanks for taking the time to read this.

I am looking for two burials, one I know is definitely in Folkestone Old Cemetery and the other I think might be in the same cemetery but don't know for sure.

The definite is one Robert William Goff, died WWI, 13th December 1916.  Details available on CWGC.  The second is his mother Susan Goff, died 5th February 1921.  I have the death cert which shows the death was registered in Elham, Folkestone, Kent which is why I think she may have been buried close to her son.  The family were from Ireland originally.

If anyone could confirm where Susan is buried would be great and if anyone could provide photos of the graves, well that would be fantastic.  Any help is much appreciated.

Thank you and happy Christmas.

I was there just this morning, dog-walking, the dogs love it ;D not that I need an excuse to wander round!
I've taken photos of the obvious military burials, & uploaded to FindAGrave.
I don't have one for Robert William Goff, so he could well be buried in a family plot (I found one just last week of a WWII casualty buried with his parents)
The burials are not in date order so he could be anywhere, however I've found his plot number & I've just contacted the council to see if a plan of the cemetery is available so at least I will have some idea of where to look. Failing that, it's no trouble just to wander around to see if I can spot him & Susan Goff.

Merry Christmas :)
Betty

Dear BettyofKent

Thank you so much.  I wonder if I email the council with the details for Susan Goff would they do a search to see if she is buried in that cemetery?  Do you have an email address for them please?

And thank you again!

Happy Christmas.

You are most welcome :)

No harm in asking the council, the email  I used is    cemeteries at shepway.gov.uk
We have to post emails like that on here to avoid spammers, so of course replace at with @

Dear Betty

I emailed the council and they replied with the he following details in the Cheriton road registers:

Susan Goff, aged 71, widow, died 5th February 1921 at 6 Westbourne Gardens, Folkestone, buried in Consecrated grave 455 on 8th February 1921.

Not sure if this is the he same cemetery as for William but if it is and you come across it while walking your dogs I'd be really grateful if you could take a photo for me please.

Thanks a million.

I had a very prompt reply from the council with a copy of the chart showing the plot numbers, so, in theory at least, I should be able to find the graves.
Not sure yet if it will be this week, it depends on the weather, but I will visit the cemetery again before long.

A good day today, reasonable weather, & I found both graves quite quickly (if only it was always like that!)

So if you PM me your email address, I will send you copies.
