James Dunn Birth
« on: Wednesday 09 December 15 09:40 GMT (UK) »
 Hi Everyone

I am desperately seeking a look up for a James Dunn parents names Andrew Dunn and Catharine Reid.

His marriage certificate states he was 43 in 1897 when he married Agnes Elizabeth Davy in Tasmania Australia, and stated his birthplace as London.

From Census records i have found he and sister Sophia Dunn where both born in England where the other siblings were born in Scotland.  I am keen to buy the birth certificate but not having any luck pin pointing the right one.

Sophia was christened in Hadlow, Kent if that is any help.

Look froward to hearing from you all
TIA

Jennifer

You would hope to find a London baptism which would help - bit vague but there is one James birth in Poplar Jun 1853 and 2 in Kent Sep 1853 and Mar 1854.

It's a pity they aren't on census in England as children with a more exact birthplace  :(

Burroughs - Arlingham Glos

The only births for a James Dunn in 1854 are these. Elham is Kent and Croydon is Surrey.

Births Mar 1854
Dunn    James
Elham    2a   646

Births Sep 1854
Dunn    James
Croydon    2a   121

Have you got any evidence that he was born London or Middlesex?

Hi everyone,

The only thing i have that has he was born in London is his marriage certificate in Tasmania in 1897 where is states he was born in London and he was 43 at time of marriage.

Yes that is the family in the 1861 census.

Why would they be back and forwards to England when the Dunn line comes from Scotland they are the only ones that have been in England and im back to 1750's.

Yes that is Sophia's birth in 1859 in tunbridge, i bought a certificate which i received yesterday for a James Dunn in Tunbridge sadly it was not the right one.

I have not been able to locate immigration for James as of yet there are so many James Dunn's coming to Australia argghhh.

I wonder who his father actually worked for as a gardener, have you got Sophia's birth certificate does it say on there? I wonder if he could he have worked for someone who also had property in England. Otherwise it may have been a case of coming to England looking for work, but it is a long way from Scotland and there is also the thing that they were in England in 1854, in Scotland in 1856, in England for 1860 and back in Scotland in 1861. I would have thought if he had just gone looking for work they wouldn't have been backwards and forwards like that.
