Charles and Florence Granath
« on: Saturday 05 December 15 05:24 GMT (UK) »
Florence born 1904 and Charles Granath born 1906 were both shown as being in the workhouse Jan 1912, their discharge is 30/12/1912 for one child and 24/02/1912 for the other, it stated in the last column
"by whose order"
I assume this is the "removal details", it was by order to St Giles Home
Is it possible to find any records online for St Giles Home

The mother of these two children died in 1906 just after Charles was born, their father disappeared and I have never found anything about him after his wife's death, he was Charles Walter Granath.

Charles born 1906 above I finally found him in North Allerton  never having been married but I wonder where he was between 1912 and when I found him on ER's in 1946 in North Allerton, he died in 1977

WOW!, many thanks, I did enter Granath into the 1939 but he never came up, didn't think to widen the search but that is him, he died in Bedale,

I suspect. although I have no evidence. that he might have been one of these lads who were put into a service somewhere, his father must have been bereft at losing his wife and 2 children prior to 1911, he disappeared

Huge thanks

Good Morning
I had a quick look and it seems Florence sadly died age 9 at Tooting Hospital of scarlet fever 28th September 1912 .
Her death is noted on the Register of Deaths for the Mitcham School Holborn Union and it seems she was admitted from Clerkenwell parish.
I presume Charles would also have been at the school.
Perhaps their records have survived and may be of more help.

Thank you Ciderdrinker an Jolee
Yes this is the right family, only difference is Charles Walter's father was Henric Granath, born in Sweden, he was later shown on census as Henri or Henry pocket book maker/fancy good maker, never before shown as Henry James Granath,

Charles Walter's wife Florence died 30/03/1906 just 12 days after Charles was born 18/03/1906
they had  2 other children
1 Florence born 1903 died 1912
2 Lilian born 1904 died 1907

So you can see what a sad life this poor man had, he didn't sign Florence death cert and neither have I found him on 1911, Charles Walter just seems to have disappeared and so had Charles born 1906 till sgf28 found him on 1939 and me by finding his death in 1977

Hello Jennifer
1911
Charles aged 5 and his sister Florence aged 7 were living with
Thomas Loader as his grandchildren at Penton Residences Kings Cross also with his own daughter Edith
Thomas Loader had been shown previously as Matthew Daniel Loader, he was the grandchildren's step grandfather I suppose you could call him, it was the grandmother's third  husband and she died in 1910 after marrying her  1898
Florence died in 1912 and her death certificate doesn't show the fathers name, I believe after the trauma of his wife's death and 2 of his children he must have gone missing, no more information about the father at all and nothing about young  Charles in adult life till he turn up in Bedale, he did spend sometime in a workhouse about 1912, he must have gone somewhere from there, perhaps a home, St Giles home, wherever that is and wherever the records are

Thank you for your interest Jennifer
