James Joseph McCormick-Died 11April 1893 in Sydney Australia aged 19

Hi Australian Rootschatters,

James Joseph McCormick was born in Belfast to William McCormick and his wife Mary (probably Curran ).His date and place of death (as above) is recorded on his parents headstone in Milton Cemetery in Belfast.
I'm wondering if any of you good folk may have access to historical Sydney newspapers that may give more information on how James Joseph died.

This could refer to Sacred Heart Hospice, Sydney?  His death appears to be listed under 'McCormack' on NSW bmd, father William, mother unknown

There does not seem to be an entry in the NSW coroners' inquest files for this man so it's likely he died from illness, especially as the death occurred at hospital - Parramatta hospital according to the funeral notice.

There is a entry on RYERSON for the Sydney Morning Herald FUNERAL Notices of 12 April 1893 for a James McCORMACK Funeral that day.
You could access that via TROVE.

The 10 May 1893 James McCORMACK is also on RYERSON, from a DEATH notice.

'The Hospice' indicates he was ill rather than there from an accident etc.
Given he was 19 and it was 1893, possibility he was suffering from TB?

From death certificate in intestate papers ...

James McCORMICK died 11 April 1893, at Hospice for The Dying in Victoria St, Sydney.  He died of phittisis [??] and his father William McCORMICK lived at 9 Windsor Gardens Belfast.

actually spelt. "phthisis"
Sad end for such a young person, probably came out here to try and get over it, dry climate thing.

That was a different person who died in May.

There is a entry on RYERSON for the Sydney Morning Herald FUNERAL Notices of 12 April 1893 for a James McCORMACK Funeral that day.
