My 4xgreat grandmother was Elizabeth Douay who married Oliver Brown in Magheragall. I have already found baptisms of their children and Oliver's will, dates of death etc.

I was wondering if anyone has ever heard of the surname Douay before? I was wondering if this could be a Huguenot name, though I have never found it listed in any books about them.

I have also found that the name Downey is found in the same area (Magheragall/Lisburn), does anyone know of any examples were Douay became known as another surname such as Downey? Would this be likely?

There are 2 Douays in 1901 Census, 1 in Coleraine, CofI and 1 in CoTyrone. R.C.
In 1911 there are 3 in Co Antrim. 2 RC and 1 CoI.
The earliest marriage I have found is Thomas Douay to Catherine Jenkins in Coleraine on 18 Oct 1875.

I think the Coleraine Douay was actually Doey (not that uncommon a name in that area).

There's at least one child born to Thomas 'Douay' and Catherine Jenkins- a son Nathaniel Jenkins Doey in 1879-

1901 census has 1 in Tyrone and other in Co. Antrim (Galgorm near Ballymena) not in Coleraine, Co. L'derry
