William Briggs born 1845 in England and died in Muttama NSW 1945 I believed he arrived with his parents in 1848.

Do you have any info. which points to 1848?
Do you have any info. on his parents since arriving in Oz?
Does any of William's children have surnames as middle names which may indicate Hannah's maiden name or any other middle names?

A couple of online trees have William Briggs born in New South Wales around 1847 , parents William Thomas Briggs and Hannah Ann Smith. A brother , Thomas , is mentioned. There is an obituary for Thomas Briggs which mentions his brother , William , the butcher at Muttama :

http://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/result?q=%22Thomas+briggs%22&l-decade=192&l-year=1928

Thomas 's death in 1928 names parents as William and Hannah - maybe the 1945 death index for William has an incorrect father's name ?

Thanks for your help

Williams Briggs Born 1845 to John and Anne Briggs (nee Butler) Died NSW age 100 (?)
Arrived  on the 'Poictiers" from London via Plymouth 13/11/1848 in South Australia he would have been 3

Facts: George, John and Roseanne (Rose Anne) were on the boat with their parents. Records have 5 children so maybe one of the children was William.  Their eldest child Catherine was already in Australia by this date.  I have detailed information of these 4 children.

If this is the William- I do have infro about his parents, especially Anne Butler.
John and Anne Briggs son John also married an Anne (my great great grandparents)
I will keep looking assuming it was William on the boat abut any more help would be great.

It seems pretty clear from the obituary that the William Briggs who married Elizabeth Charlesworth in 1872 and died in Muttama in 1945 was born in St Mary's NSW so it would seem that he is not the missing sibling that you are looking for.

What was William's father's name on his marriage & death certs.
The marriage cert. would be the word of William himself.

Marriage Cert does not have his parents name. Our family folklore has that, after arriving in SA, at least one of the children travelled to NSW in the care of a Church of England minister. Given it was not John and does not appear to be George, it could have been this child, which could account for his not knowing his parents names and also lack of consistency in some of the earlier documents about William.

If his is the death registered in 1945 Cootamundra , 24160, parents' names were Charles and Hannah.

I agree with CB & Sean, you are searching for the wrong William.

It seems pretty clear from the obituary that the William Briggs who married Elizabeth Charlesworth in 1872 and died in Muttama in 1945 was born in St Mary's NSW so it would seem that he is not the missing sibling that you are looking for.
