Family Plot- Loughbrickland Cemetery
« on: Friday 13 November 15 22:27 GMT (UK) »
I am researching my Father's Mother's side of the family at the moment. I was told there is a family plot at Loughbrickland cemetery, just outside of Bainbridge and I know that some of my Father's relatives are laid to rest there. His Mother's Mum was Grattan and her Father was Fergus. Can someone advise how I can find out who all are buried there for my research. I am planning on going to Ireland next summer and would like to visit the cemetery to pay my respects, so to know who is there would be wonderful. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

It's Banbridge not Bainbridge but I can't find a 'Loughbrickland Cemetery.' Could it possibly be a graveyard at a church where your family are buried?

Where did the family live and what religion would they have been?

This might help you narrow down the burial place-

Sorry typo on Banbridge - The family farm was located at 31 Doughery Road outside Banbridge and the cemetery is about 1/2 mile down the road from the farm. The religion for the family is either Church of Ireland or Protestant and I was told it is the Loughbrickland cemetery as well a church is located there as well.

I have been able to confirm the cemetery is also with the Loughbrickland Presbyterian Church which is located about 1/2 a mile down the road from the Family farm. Sorry I have a few people giving me conflicting information about location, but this is the one for sure. Thank you.

Unfortunately most Presbyterian churches do not keep burial records but you would need to contact that particular one to check. There may, if you are lucky, be a graveyard map that might show the location of any family plot even if no headstone exists. When contacting the church also ask if there are any reclaiming records as relatives still in the area often claim burial rights for plots of relatives where the people have either died out or moved away.

Forgot to add this-

Many Presbyterian families continued to use old family plots in the Parish church (Church of Ireland) so even if your family attended the Presbyterian church you might need to look elsewhere.

Hello! I'm looking for information about the family of Sarah Wallace Alexander (born in Loughbrickland in 1768). She was orphaned at a young age and cared for by her Wallace relatives. Wondering if there are any records or graves of the Alexander or Wallace relatives there?
