Windows 10 upgrade!
« on: Friday 13 November 15 14:50 GMT (UK) »
As if we didn't have enough problems changing from Windows 7/8, Microsoft has decided in their wisdom to update the Windows 10 currently available.
15 minutes (@75Mb/sec) download then now in the process of installing.
Sufficient to be aware for all of us using a laptop get the power adapter out as it's going to take ages to install?
 Brian
Message comes up - Preparing to install! - 20minutes.
After a reboot new install screen comes up, like watching paint dry so pick a time when computer not required for a hour or so! :o :o
1hr and 40minutes to be precise!

Mine had trouble on the update it tried and could n't so went back on later. It tried a few times then said it was collecting info in respect of the failed update, then restarted the computer a couple of times but managed then. I also had a call from a friend who I think has 8.1 and she had trouble with updates and appeared to be stuck. Already tried switching it on and off did n't work. I told her to switch it off and leave it for half an hour and then switch it back on and hopefully it would resume. I waited for a call back and when she did, it had worked!

The above update was 1 of 2, first o'k but notified the second had failed.
Reset to check for updates and success, just wish I knew how large a file I was downloading and how long to complete.

No - it won't let me. I contacted PC World, where I bought it and was told that MS and the manufacturer (Samsung) probably hadn't sorted out incompatibilities yet. Luckily I don't use it much any more - my new Mac is so much more reliable

Would this link be of any use to get Windows 10 onto their computer?

I am glad I read your post.  If I had not seen this I would certainly have been panicking when nothing appeared to be happening for ages in certain stages of the download/installation. I didn't time it but it must have taken around the same time as yours did.

well after that 'meaty' upgrade I cant see any immediate/obvious difference .... no change to the odd way that Updates are performed (compared to the succinct control and visible progress one got with WIN7)   .. Windows Security Essentials aka DEFENDER still doesnt display an Icon in the System Tray until prompted and 'File History' steadfastly refuses to work !
