1939 register - ORL?
« on: Thursday 05 November 15 22:11 GMT (UK) »
Hi, and apologies if this has already been asked but I can't see any answer so far. Ive just found my Nans Nan and Grandad and family and under G G Grandad's date of birth is written, in a different shade of pen, 94 ORL 27/4/50.

I know there are edits made to it as the war years went on and before rationing stopped etc (my aunts name is crossed out in red and replaced with her married name) but what does ORL mean? I cant see it on any others I viewed - I can see ORA and I think ORQ on my other GG Grandads sheet on his neighbours names but cant figure out what ORL means.

I think he died in 1950 but Nans not sure and as I just spent nearly £30 on FindMyPast I cant be sending for his death cert (also his name was Charles Jones so Id be there all day lol).

Thanks Lisa

ORL will be the husband's national registration number & the date will be the date they were informed of the marriage/name change.

Cheers

Sorry i've misread your question I as thought the code & date had been added to the female.

Of the entries ive looked at the code & dates have been added to women who married post 1939.

Jay

Yeah I've saw some of them too but this one is below the Grandads name. Could be mistaken as above the Nan's name but we know for a fact she never remarried and her name wasnt altered on there anyway.
