My great grandmother was Jane Belshaw,1846-1902,her father was John Belshaw 1807-1864. I can't find his father or further back with the Belshaws. John and Jane were from Co Down but it's possible that John's family were from Northern England as it's a well known name there. Any ideas please.

Thanks for all the replies. The Belshaws were Presbyterian.I'm not sure about the John that was a publican,i don't think he's my family,I think John was a weaver. There was another Belshaw family from Antrim. I will have another look at Ros Davis site. John's father would have been born abt 1785.

Did John's daughter Jane Belshaw marry? if so, what's her father's occupation on her marriage certificate? and what was her residence? when and where did she marry?
By 1860s there would have been fewer weavers working from home than in the previous generation so your John Belshaw could certainly have acquired another occupation by the time he died. However, you said originally that John Belshaw was born 1807 and died 1864- what's the basis for this?
It looks like the Lisburn John Belshaw might have been born c1788-

This John Belshaw born c1807 died 1868 Newtownards district-

The John Belshaw that was born 1807 and died 1868 is my great x2 grand dad.He was a weaver. His daughter Jane 1844-1904 married James McMillan also a weaver. He was from Glasgow 1840-1916.
I can't find John's father,he could have been born in England and gone to Ireland,I don't know.Usually there is a record that give a parent but in this case I can't find one.
John's wife was Fanny McRobert,I can trace them a couple of generations back.
Any help welcome
Ps they were all from the Newtownards area.
