Obviously I should not be surprised......
« on: Thursday 05 November 15 12:03 GMT (UK) »
Last week I noticed that someone was seeking genealogy advice via a facebook group.
The name and town quoted was one I have been researching, so I answered with a few basic details and asked if there seemed to be a connection.

An answer pinged backed straight away..... YES, a definite connection.

I felt really excited, and made an offer of help if she would like to message me.

One week later............ nothing!   Personally I would have stayed up all night to establish contact.

Why go to the bother of asking for contact but not bother to follow up when you hit the jackpot??

I would be irritated waiting as well. On another recent contact I was given, this time from south aus, I got messages back straight away. Asked if they'd done DNA testing and the reply was that's interesting, I've got a kit waiting to do.  They are from the same direct lines as myself. The more enthusiastic ones I get these days are the ones who have done DNA testing! May be you'll hear soon, may be they are collating some info,or gone on holiday but a week feels like a lifetime while you're waiting. May be they are trying to relate how they link to you although they know there's a definite connection. I know me and my new contact have had to work down to each other's line. The line in common goes back to 1700's. I've had to back track and she's had to work down descendants. May be you can message again as its been a week.

Hi Weste.
I think I am less irritated, than flabbergasted.
I believe I made it quite clear how my research fits into theirs.
Secretly I suspect I was just supposed to hand over ALL my research, and that is what they are waiting for.
Could be a long wait!!  :-\

Sounds like you had a lucky escape.  If you had sent them all your research and then they never got back to you, you would be feeling a bit more than flabbergasted.  It's happened to me several times- ugh

That sounds like me. My legitimate excuse was debilitating illness and loss of family tree and research when the computer expired.

However, I do appreciate the feeling of confusion when someone makes exuberant contact with wishes and promises of further contact followed by .................. nada......and....... I am still ........waiting!  :D

By the way, I am delighted to pass on my research to "relatives", after all we all came from the same place.

Of course, it could well be something like that........... but... yes, confused sums it up.

(Evidently you have access to a computer again. Hope you are also in better health Ladyfing.  :-*)
