Richard Atkinson, m Eleanor? Askin or Erskine, c1840 - Seagoe, Lurgan

Richard b 1812 (son of Thomas Atkinson and Elizabeth Bullock) came out to New Zealand with his two teenage daughters, Elizabeth and Margaret, and nephew John, in 1864.  He was murdered in Waipori, Otago, NZ, the following year leaving his daughters orphaned.  I have never been able to find any details of his marriage or of his wife.  I am assuming she died before he left.  Family info has her name as Eleanor and her last name Askin, but one of her grandchildren has the middle name Erskine and I know these can be interchangeable.
There are records that there was another daughter, Jane, who went to America with her maternal grandparents but she remains elusive apart from commentary that she wrote (I have no evidence though) to her family until 1905's earthquake when no more was heard from her.
I would very much like to find out more details about Richard's wife and her family.

I doubt that Richard was Catholic - some of the Atkinson family had quaker links but not sure about these two.

 Margaret Atkinson was born about 1848, the Irish famine lasted 1846-50. I wonder if this would have upset the recording of her birth?

Quite a cluster of Atkinsons in that area of Co. Armagh, so might be nothing, but an Elenor Atkinson was baptised on 1 December 1844, her parents were Richard and Elenor Atkinson from the townland of Tarsan in Seagoe Civil Parish.  She was baptised in the High Street Methodist Church, Lurgan:

A Richard Atkinson of Tarsan appears in Griffiths Valuation, the print date was 1864 (maybe surveyed in the previous year?).

Yes!  They were from Tarson.  Richard lived in an adjoining house to his brother, Robert.  So that looks like another sibling that I have not known of.  Thank you very much.

Ashley is a distant cousin and we are in regular contact.
I hope to visit the area next June so want whatever info I can find - and maybe find where my ancestors family went to.

Regarding your mention of a Jane who possibly went to America, there is a death in New York area in 1922 of a Jane Lowens. Age at death gives birth c1846. Her birthplace was Ireland and her father was a Richard Atkinson. May be worth checking further, as certainly a possibility for 'your' Jane.
