does anyone know anything about a family with the surname calnan in cork during the early 1830s
looking to reaerch an ancestors family before the emmigrated to england .There name was James Calnan born in 1831 in cork

The surname sounds as if it might be a variant of Callinan / Callanan. Lots of them around in Cork at that time.
Eg. here is a James Callanan baptised on 26 July 1831 in the parish of Aghada, parents Thomas Callanan and Mary Mahony of Guranne, right page, two-thirds way down from top of page:
