...
Walter's son (Walter James) was baptised in 1864, at Ste-Anne's, Shankill, as previously stated.
...

Once again, does the 1864 baptism give the son's age or date of birth?

There looks to be no birth registration for Walter James (even looking for a male child without name listed) so it's possible that he was not an infant when baptised. If he was born before 1864 then it's equally possible that his father was dead before 1864.

No, the baptismal record for Walter James does not give birth date, or age...........only baptismal date of Dec 23, 1864. Walter(his father) is not listed as deceased.

On the 1892  US census, of New York, says Walter James was born about 1865.  In the 1900 census of New York,  Walter James is listed as being born  December of 1864.

Now I suppose it is possible, but very unlikely he was born earlier than 1864.

Now.............back to my original query,  I was looking for the burial records for Shankill Cemetery, to see if Walter (born 1818-1820) is buried there.  I have the cemetery inscriptions, and he is not listed, so was hoping the records of burials are still around, and that he may be listed.

Even if his son was born in 1864, there is nothing to say that Walter may not have died sometime in the preceding 9 months, I have come across a number of cases where a father died before the birth of their son. If Walter had died 1863 there would be no death certificate of his death.

So, if I am understanding you correctly, if Walter died before 1864...............his burial would not be listed, in the Shankill burial registers, if they still exist?  If this is the case, I am very sorry for wasting your time.  Coming from Canada, I am not familiar with the Belfast area records, as to what is available, and what is not.

No, I think you are still confused about the advice and comments posted here.

Civil registration of births & deaths started in 1864. If Walter Kane died 1864-1870 there should be a death certificate (some early deaths escaped registration but that was more likely to be in rural than urban areas).

If Walter James Kane was born in 1864 then there should also be a birth registration. This is why I tried to get an answer about what details were in the baptism record.

I can find neither in the civil registration index or GRONI's own database using the broadest of searches.

Records for Shankill Cemetery are a completely separate thing and are not online.

The search facility does not include burial records for the following cemeteries: ... Shankill Graveyard. If you are looking for records for these graveyards, call our Cemeteries and Crematorium Central Office on 028 9027 0296 or email cemeteries[at]belfastcity.gov.uk for further help and advice.

Thanks for the information.  As i stated previously, i was looking for BURIAL RECORDS........  in Shankill Cemetery...........not death records or indexes.  Sry to have caused such confusion, and to have wasted your time. Apparently my original request was not clear enough.

No, your request was clear enough but we were trying to help you find a death date for Walter Kane. A death certificate would have given that and allowed for newspaper searches to see if a funeral notice did appear in the local paper.

Since Shankill records are not online we are not able to help if that is all you want to find.

Thanks a bunch for all your help and advice.  Don't mean to be a pain...............so frustrating, finding these elusive ancestors.  Now to start on my McCrum.s from County Down.
