Frederick Watson Obit, Newfoundland
« on: Tuesday 27 October 15 15:07 GMT (UK) »
Looking for the newspaper obituary for Frederick Watson, who lived in St. Vincent's.  He died on April 20, 1961, and is buried in Belvedere Cemetery.

What i am really interested in................is if he lists his parents names in the obituary. I understand the copyright laws.

Thanks.

Hello Lorie
I have contacted The St John's Public library and if they can find a obituary they will send it on to me.

If found I will forward it on to you via PM.

I did find this family on  another site and there were 10 children born to them some which may be still living so will not post names. I can PM you if you wish.  I can tell you that Frederick was a fisherman and was born in 1887.

The Watson stuff you see online, is probably mine.  I have it posted on Ancestry.ca.

Hi Lorie

I went onto FamilySearch and they have Newfoundland census records for 1935 and 1945 which has  information on Frederick and Stella's family along with a marriage for Fred and Stella which took place 17 Jan 1920. Also found a marriage for a Fred K Watson  who married a Mary Gibbans July 27 1913. Could this be your Fred? I see from the census records that Fred was born in Germany have you found a passenger record for him? I will take a look and see if I can find him anywhere.

It is helpful if you indicate what information you already have when posting a request.

The library indicated it could be a day or two to send the obit if there is one.

Sry, in hindsight i maybe should have done that, but at the same time, didn't want to clutter up, with what i have.   Everything you are finding, is what I have so far. My dilemma, is, that I am just guessing at Frederick's parents.   I think, they may have been Frederick Watson and Mary Halleran, but need proof.  Was hoping his obit would name his parents.  I also think he has a brother Bernard/Benjamin, but again need proof of parents.  I have checked out what is available in parish records, and census records online, and am still coming up blank.

The Watson Family Tree, that is on Ancestry.com is mine, but needs to be updated.   Was hoping to do this after i find Fred's parents.

Sry for the blonde moment.  The Frederick Watson, I am looking for was married to Stella(Hayward) Watson.

He died on April 20, 1961. and she died on July 29, 1988.

His tombstone is handmade, and has no date of birth, and the census records, that are availabe give varying ages.

Frederick, was married 1st to Catherine Halleran, who died in 1918, after giving birth to five childre.  Frederick then married Stella Hayward, in 1920, and had a bunch more children, some who are still living.

Hi Lorie

After looking at the 1935 and 1945 census for Newfoundland  I see a William Watson born 1880 in Germany on the same page with Fred do you suppose they could be brothers?

Will keep looking.

Yes, i saw that too, and it does not jive with previous census records.  I think the census taker was incorrect.   No evidence of being born in Germany.  All other records, says they were born in ST. Vincent's, and were either English for British.
Even the naming patterns don't match for Frederick being German. It is odd, though, that i cannot find a marriage record for Fred to Catherine Halleran.  I know there were married for sure, because of their son's Peter and George, who list Fred and Catherine as their parents on their marriage records overseas..
After Catherine dies,  in 1918, George appears in the family of Catherine's mother, on the 1921 census as adopted, if memory serves  me correctly.
