Ruby or Matilda?
« on: Thursday 22 October 15 11:16 BST (UK) »
I have hit a brickwall regarding my uncles 1st wife. Everyone knew her as Ruby. Her maiden name was McCoy. Born approx. 1927 somewhere near Omagh. She married my uncle on 30th May 1959 at St Andrews Church, Kowloon, Hong Kong. The name on the certificate is Ruby McCoy. I have not seen the certificate and it was, apparently, an army wedding but I can find no details on it. She died in Ireland (don't know where) in approx. 1972. However my uncle says her real name was Matilda Rebecca Elizabeth McCoy. Other than an outward passenger list for a MRS Matilda McCoy on 30th April 1959 travelling to Hong Kong I can find no information for either a Ruby or Matilda. Can anyone help??

In Ulster, Ruby is a ickname for Rebecca so she was probably known by her middle name. What was her married name?

Latest oline birth indexes for Northern Ireland only go up to 1921 (www.familysearch.org).

1959 manifest shows Mrs. Matilda McCoy's address as 5 Main St., Fintona, Co. Tyrone (shorthand/typist) but that may not be where she was originally from.

Posting this as a possible 1st husband for your Matilda McCoy- although Wesley age 47 so born c1906:
McCoy Wesley of Bleary county Down commercial traveller died 3 February 1953 Administration Belfast 1 July to Matilda McCoy the widow. Effects £1968 2s. 4d.

Added- Wesley McCoy married 28 June 1932 Craigavon district to Matilda Carson

The thing is we have no knowledge of her being married before.
Married name was Cutler.

I may have missed something but if Wesley McCoy married his Matilda in 1932 it is unlikely to be the Matilda that Daisy123 is looking for as her Matilda/Ruby was born c1927

Which is why I posted Wesley McCoy's age, 1911 census reference to confirm age, and, finally, added the marriage details to eliminate this  Matilda McCoy as the possible Hong Kong bride.

Hi There

Can I just note that in your original post you say that the name on the marriage cert says Ruby McCoy . . .

Yet, then you say that you have not seen the certificate nor can you find details on it.

Can you just clarify where you have gotten your information on her from ?!

Thanks

Tara

Hi There

Super

I would suggest looking for other McCoys travelling to the same region.

Hopefully a sibling or the like may have have travelled there too and you may get better leads through their paperwork !
