Bootle Funeral 1925
« on: Wednesday 21 October 15 17:56 BST (UK) »
A distant relative - John Thomas may have died 3rd. Nov 1925 at Walton Institution (which I assume to be a hospital). His home address listed as 67, Cambridge Road, Bootle, but the witness on the death certificate is the local coroner, as opposed to a family member - so not 100% sure of my facts.
He was one of 15 children of a very close family and would probably have had a large funeral. My desperate hope is to find a newspaper coverage of this funeral in the hope of concluding my search. Does anyone know a process for searching through Liverpool Newspapers during the 1920's.

There may be a weekly news paper called  The Bootle Times.

Do you live on Merseyside currently?        If you do,  ask  at one of the local libraries  to find out where the Archives are housed these days.         They probably have local newspapers  on micro fiche.  Or the Group of Newspapers may also have   hard copies Or   micro fiche copies.

As an after thought,  it is just possible that Walton Institution  may possibly refer  to HM Prison Walton?

Hi
Walton Institution is probably Walton Hospital. That would of been the nearest hospital to Cambridge Road.
If you are local to Liverpool, Liverpool Central Library will have mircofilms of old newspapers, and newspapers you can search on their computers if you have a library card. Plus as you mention Bootle it might of been in Sefton newspapers so Crosby Library will have newspapers useful to you as well.
Good Luck

Thank you both.
Following your comments I find from google that a Walton Workhouse opened Dec 1873 eventually becoming Walton Institution and finally Walton Hospital. Relief that it was not a prison - the old family would have been mortified.
I do not live on Mersyside (about 50 miles away) so I will follow your advise and contact Liverpool Library. If I get a positive response - will gladly travel in.

The local Bootle newspaper is on film Crosby library, if you contact Reference and Information Services Sefton MBC they will probably be able to look it up for you.
